With hunting season coming soon and fall here, that doesn’t mean camping has to end. My husband’s family made hunting season a family affair. Grandparents, cousins, and all the kids take a week away from work and school to camp and spend time together.
But a whole week camping during hunting season you say… with kids? Besides board games and electronic devices don’t forget that with a few craft supplies you can get those kids outside on a mission.
What you’ll need…
- Construction paper
- Small branches and twigs
- Nontoxic washable paint OR crayons/markers
- Elmer’s glue
- Take a walk and have the kids gather small fallen branches and twigs. Once back at the campsite have them break the branches and twigs into smaller pieces.
- When you’re ready to have them sit down for a few minutes grab your construction paper, glue, small branches and twigs and the paint or crayons/markers.
- We used paint, but for a less messy alternative I would definitely let the kids go crazy drawing flames with crayons or markers (or both for an awesome mixed medium), watercolors are also another great option.
- After having the kids make the flames, give them the glue and small branches and twigs and be ready to sit back and enjoy some peace and quiet.
My two spent 20 mins quietly gluing and placing twigs and branches to create the base of a fire. It was peaceful and relaxing for them and myself…just how camping should be.
